Portfolio of Works

When you read my description for my vessels, the same stands true except that sometimes everything needs a little twist and turn to keep interest churning.  I celebrate the form, function and usefulness of the vessel in these collections and then I add a flower or an object that has meaning to me.  The Chinese proverb .. if a man had 2 pennies, he should spend one on a loaf of bread to sustain life and the other on a flower to bring joy and beauty to life!

Tucked away in a bay or on the path more travelled, the boat house is the entryway to a relaxed, comfortable and kind way of life.

Ice Huts provide recreation and psychological stimulation for all.  They are found the world over and provide unique architecture over the northern reaches of the globe. Creativity building forms!

I enjoy doing a commission for someone as it pushes the boundaries of my imagination and it allows me to do what I might not have done of my own volition.  Depending on the busyness of my life and  the size of the project I like to create 4-5 of these over the year give or take.  Don't be shy to inquire.  Together, we can work on your family heirloom!

The boathouses on Lake of the Woods have withstood the test of time.  Their history lives within the walls and they exude a magic to all that pass by.  I like to twist them a little to fit my style and my colour choices!  I hope you agree that they add to the joy of the Lake!

The ice huts are an integral part of winter fun on the lake.  It is a get away and supplies fresh air, fun and hopefully a few fish!!

A lot of these huts are accessed by ice roads which are also utilized by contractors to build and service camps (cottages) on the lake.  An industry to be sure.  The roads require serious monitoring as there are areas of current which could turn out to be a bad turn of events.  Perhaps you would call that a bit of an adrenalin rush!??

One of my great childhood memories is my dad tying a toboggan to the back of the car and pulling us around the lake .. probably frowned upon today but boy, was it exciting and we looked forward to it every winter!!

I have been drawn under the spell of the vessel since I first visited a museum.  From Neolithic times onward,  the vessel has permeated our lives across culture and time.  They are amazing objects in their utility, their beauty, their function and their form.  I keep coming back to them to explore and to celebrate their being through my paintings.

After a visit to Fogo in October, 2021, I fell in love with everything Fogo!  A land with a sense of community, a strong work ethic, a bond to the earth and great friendships .. working together to create an unforgettable experience!  It's on my bucket list to return.

I grew up on Lake of the Woods, Kenora, Ontario, Canada.   Lake of the Woods has 14,000 islands and is home to some of the finest fishing and boating in Canada.  If you have a place on the water, you might have a boathouse - they come in all shapes and sizes, many of them still standing from the early 1900's.  They are part of my history and have become a sense of place to me.

In the winter, the lake magically transforms into a hive of activity for those who like to try their luck at snagging the big one on hard water.  The mundane little huts bring my paintbrush out to help create a magical life which portrays a sport which has withstood the test of time bringing past and present together in living colour!

Whether it's sold, available (or never to be listed!), I find importance in showing my favourite pieces.

Is curiosity killing the cat (errr, viewer)? I would love to chat with you more about this piece!

Please reach out to me at [email protected] to spill the tea!

These works have resulted from various workshops that I have taken.  In future, every new series I undertake will have an abstracted component to it.  It's a great way to loosen up and see what's happening within!

Thank you to my wonderful collectors!  I hope you enjoy the painting as much as I enjoyed creating it!
